Participated in Events for Vermont Youth Appreciation Month
Four years ago a group of Bennington area youth drafted a resolution to establish a Vermont Youth Appreciation Day, and yesterday seven members of Teens 4 Change: Youth Move participated in a ceremony with Governor Shumlin where a proclamation was signed recognizing May as Vermont Youth Appreciation Month. Following the passage of a join resolution by the House and Senate, Thursday, April 28th marked the signing of the proclamation in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office at the Statehouse in Montpelier.
“We’ve been working to increase involvement of youth in the community so they feel more connected and are able to recognize the impact they have on where they live,” said the original Teens 4 Change founder, and now UCS support staff member to the group, Katrina Hollis. “This event marks a significant amount of work for the group and the teens are definitely feeling that their voices are heard on important issues.”
Teens 4 Change is a local youth led organization that recently was welcomed as the first Vermont chapter of the Youth M.O.V.E. National Organization. Youth M.O.V.E. (Motivating Others through Voices of Experience) is an organization working to unite the voices and causes of youth.
