Record Participation at UCS’ Go the Distance 5k
Runners and walkers took to the streets of Bennington on Saturday, June 27th for United Counseling Service’s Go The Distance 5k Run/Walk and Family Fun Day. A record 117 participants pledged a donation to CRT Peer Services to participate in the race; a significant increase in participants from the previous year’s 78. A quick Zumba warm-up was offered for participants from local instructor, Andrea Malinowski, and then the race began at 9AM. Within an hour, all 117 participants had crossed the finish line and were celebrating with awards, tie-dye, and a raffle. A kid’s race was held separately on a specially designed course to finish the day.
All of the $1,400 raised directly benefits Community Rehabilitation and Treatment (CRT) Peer Services at UCS. The Peer Services program demonstrates how successful clients of UCS clinicians take what they’ve learned to help guide their peers through similar problems. Funding from the event is used to organize the program, provide food and materials, and support expenses and training for the program
