October 20, 2021 Mentoring at UCS Announced as Cabot Creamery Co-Operative Reward Volunteers Winner UCS Corporate News Cabot Creamery Cooperative has announced that United Counseling Service (UCS) a private, non-profit community mental health center in Bennington, VT is the winner of a $2500 grant sponsored by CoBank. The grant is specifically for non-profit organizations that play an integral role in small communities as part of Cabot’s Reward Volunteers initiative. Cabot has partnered with CoBank to offer several $2500 grants to rural non-profits that serve a community with a population of 20,000 or fewer residents. United Counseling Service won for volunteer hours that were tracked during the month of September. The program helps children reach their potential through one-to-one supported relationships. Research has long demonstrated that young people benefit from close, caring relationships with adults who serve as positive role models. At-risk youth with mentors have better attitudes toward school, increased social and emotional development, improved self-esteem, and are more likely to go to college than their non-mentored peers. UCS mentor Andrea Luchini says of her mentee, “The mentoring program has not only been a great way for Jailynn to experience new things and have time away from her younger siblings, but she has also loved the social aspect…making friends outside of school has definitely been a highlight. I’ve watched her self-confidence blossom as she interacts with new people. It’s also amazing to watch her continually challenge herself—her inner strength and bravery are an example for us all!” Reward Volunteers is a volunteer tracking & rewards system for those who generously give back. Cabot has lead the efforts behind Reward Volunteers to celebrate and promote volunteerism across the United States and rewards those individuals and organizations that track the most volunteer hours. Reward Volunteers is a free, easy way to track and log your volunteer hours for the good work you do in your communities for a chance to earn rewards in cash or prizes for your contributions.
