United Counseling Service Awarded Governor’s Excellence in Wellness Award
Bennington, Vt. — United Counseling Service (UCS) was recognized by the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports with a Governor’s Excellence in Wellness Award at the Vermont Worksite Wellness Conference. This was the second recognition from the Governor’s Council for UCS’ worksite wellness initiatives; the program won a silver award last year.
The UCS wellness program aims to increase awareness of positive health choices, motivate employees to voluntarily engage in healthy behaviors, and provide a supportive environment to foster positive lifestyle changes.
The most popular wellness initiative at UCS is the “you lose, you win” weight loss challenge where employee teams compete at bi-weekly weigh-ins. The average participant weight loss is 15lbs and the entire program has a combined weight loss of over 900lbs. Healthy lunch seminars, a virtual 5k walk/run, “meetings on the move,” onsite exercise sessions, wellness clinics and social events like bowling are a sampling of some of the wellness opportunities at UCS.
“These workplace wellness initiatives add a special value to our workplace and allow employees to enjoy the process of living a healthy lifestyle,” said Executive Assistant and Workplace Wellness Coordinator Amy Fela. “We’re happy to receive this award and thank our employees who share their fitness goals, healthy recipes, and success stories in the program.
The conference was held on Wednesday, March 25, at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center in Burlington.
