Daylong Event Created for Youth by Youth in the Community
Bennington, VT. — The Youth Summit Committee announced the second annual Youth Summit of Bennington today, for April 22, 2016 at the Mount Anthony High School from 9am to 4pm. The daylong summit will offer 12 workshops and seven “mini mental health moments,” that invite youth to embrace the event’s theme of a “Healthy State of Mind.” The Youth Summit is supported by United Counseling Service and Teens 4 Change: Youth Move.
“The focus of the day is to help youth explore topics related to mental, physical, and community wellness,” said event organizer and UCS staff member Katrina Hollis. “This is a fun day that offers a great outlet for youth to gather and work on issues or problems that matter most to them.”
Some of the workshops offered at the summit will include: Youth Community Action Team (YCAT) planning; Self-Harm Awareness; Advocacy, Leadership, Empowerment and YOU; What is Mindfulness?; and UMATTER: Suicide Prevention.
The mini mental health moments will include: Introduction to Meditation; Sugar Attack!; Clouded Thoughts; Introduction to Yoga; Your Body Hears What Your Mind & Mouth Say!!!; and Mental Health 101.
Over 50 youth attended the first summit and event organizers hope to build on previous success with a larger turnout this year. Community projects, such as YCAT and their prescription drug awareness campaign were conceived at the last summit.
