Outpatient Clinician

United Counseling Service (UCS) is proud to introduce Outpatient Clinician Paul Perrault, who offers in-person individual and group therapies for adults, as well as evening availability, at the agency’s 100 Ledge Hill Drive location in Bennington, VT. He joined UCS in 2025 and enjoys serving clients in a variety of ways, from regularly scheduled therapy sessions and group work to welcoming first-time clients through the Same Day Access program.

Paul earned his graduate degree in counseling in 2024 from Capella University and is currently working toward his Vermont Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensure. Previously, Paul worked in private practice in Massachusetts before discovering his interest in an agency setting. Now at UCS, Paul looks forward to starting therapy groups inspired by his passions for nature and discovering meaning, such as forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, a Japanese phrase that means “bathing in the forest atmosphere.” Paul employs a self-proclaimed eclectic approach to therapy, using the power of stories to help clients move toward healing. These stories originate from a client’s own interests and can include sources like comic books, TV shows and even fantasy role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons.

“When clients can use these things they thought were frivolous as important therapeutic tools and have a breakthrough, it’s pretty amazing to see,” says Paul. “I’ve already seen how useful it is for anybody, from kids to adults, to be able to use that kind of imagination to get on the other side of their issues. It’s a pretty powerful tool—it’s not just for make believe.”

Paul takes direction from clients’ needs and interests to inform his work. “I try to tell my clients that I’m not here with a cookie cutter, that I have one direction we’re going to go,” says Paul. “I like to say that I have a grappling belt full of different tools and I like to match what I do to the style of the client.”

Paul aims to provide a therapeutic experience that is approachable, enjoyable and accessible. He is available for in-person therapy services from 10am-7pm Monday through Thursdays and 9am-5pm on Fridays. Virtual options are also available as needed.
