Head Start News, Latest News

Dear Bennington County Community,

We wanted to share how excited we are about our new school year, beginning September 4, 2025. This year is extra special as we celebrate 60 years of Head Start. Our program was one of the original pilot programs, launching in the summer of 1965 as part of Project Head Start. We are proud to carry that legacy forward with you and your children.

The 2025–2026 year will be filled with exciting growth and meaningful opportunities for our children, families, and staff. Here are just a few things we’re looking forward to:

Expanded Infant & Toddler Services

We’re growing! This year, we’re expanding our care and learning programs for our youngest children to support early development right from the start with additional infant and toddler slots at our Spring Center location at 655 Gage Street in Bennington. These slots are community-based slots and open to all families regardless of income levels!

Conscious Discipline & Early Education Program

We’re integrating Conscious Discipline in all areas—from classroom strategies, including teacher coaching, to parenting tips at home. This approach fosters emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and positive behavior through connection and understanding. Additionally, we continue to partner with local organizations to enrich curriculum experiences, including swimming at the Y, regular library visits, Vermont Arts Exchange partnership, gardening, and Tooth Tutor services.

Family Engagement

We believe that strong family partnerships create strong foundations for children’s success. Opportunities involve educational, health, nutrition, and mental health supports. Additionally, each center has its own Center Committee- a welcoming place to meet other families, participate in activities, and help build a positive community. We’ll also be hosting events for male caregivers, special “pop-up” family events, and Policy Council, our family advisory board where families and staff collaborate on program decisions.

We’re Here for You!

We still have limited slots available at our (2 Park St) North Bennington, (655 Gage St) Bennington, and (97 School House Rd) Pownal locations. Please call April or Wenona at 442-3686 for more information and to apply! Follow us on social media: Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Warmly,

Rebecca Bishop Ware; Director of Early Childhood Services
