SUMMARY:Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:View PDF Flyer > \nFridays in October 2022\nThe EMDR Intensive retreat is designed to offer individuals or loved ones dealing with trauma an opportunity to heal in beautiful Southern Vermont.  The length of the retreat can vary from one day to several days and will be determined by the needs identified in the initial consultation and assessment meeting. \n  \n\n\n\n\nWhat is EMDR?\n\n\n\n\nEMDR is a client centered therapeutic approach that focuses on traumatic memory processing. Trained EMDR Clinicians utilize techniques that guide patients to bring attention to traumatic memory or negative cognition(s) while the bilateral stimulation is employed. \n  \nThe goal\n\n\n\n\nTo reduce the persisting psychological impacts caused by traumatic memory through modifying how the memory is stored. The length of the retreat can vary in length from one to several days and will be determined by the needs identified in the initial consultation and assessment meeting. \n  \nWho would benefit?\nAppropriateness for the intensive therapy retreat will be determined during this time. Intensive therapy is intended to work as a powerful complement to traditional therapy. It should not be viewed as a “quick fix” for complex issues nor as a standalone substitute for other therapies.   People who benefit most from intensive therapy typically have a history of some success in traditional therapy prior to the intensive. All participants in intensive therapy are expected to have an aftercare plan that includes follow up with a qualified therapist. \nA person may be appropriate for intensive therapy if some of the following are true: \n\nSupportive relationships with at least two friends\, family members or partners.\nGenerally safe and stable life situation (not experiencing homelessness nor in an abusive home or workplace).\nSome understanding and practice of self-care and personal wellness.\nSome history of success with traditional therapy including assessment and current\, verifiable diagnosis(es).\nSome ability to tolerate intense emotional states.\nDesire to develop self-awareness and insight.\n\nA person may not be appropriate for intensive therapy if some of the following are true: \n\nCertain types/ levels of dissociation.\nCurrent unhealthy\, uncontrolled drug or alcohol use.\nUntreated personality disorder or volatile personality.\nCurrent or recent suicidal intention\, planning or attempt.\nSelf-harm or drug use as a current\, recent or likely response to overwhelming emotional intensity.\nIn the midst of a current distressing life event (examples include: a contentious divorce\, abusive relationship or criminal trial).\nNo prior experience with counseling or psychotherapy.\n\n  \n\n\nTo get started\n\n\n\n\nIn the initial consultation and assessment meeting\, you will meet with a licensed clinician through United Counseling Service’s FAST (Find Access to Service and Treatment) team who will provide information about the program and review your mental health concerns\, history of treatment\, current life situation and supports as well as your hopes and goals for treatment. You will complete screenings for anxiety\, depression\, domestic violence\, PTSD\, disassociation or social thinking. The FAST team is there to answer any questions you may have. \n\n\nThe initial consultation is $360 and total cost will be determined after the consultation. Private insurance is currently not accepted. \n  \nMeet the team\n\nMarisa Turner\, LMSW\nMarisa is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW). (Link below) \nTopic: UCS Presents: Upstanders Follow Up Discussion with Jason Fleming \nTime: May 17\, 2022 12:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://ucsvt.zoom.us/j/81971872086?pwd=RTgvNUJLaG5FbWFZUW9SMGJkSDg5Zz09 \n  \nTHIS EVENT IS CANCELED \nUCS will be presenting a virtual screening of the Indieflix documentary\, The Upstanders on Wednesday\, May 4 at 6pm. \nThe Upstanders delves deep into cyber-bullying\, showing the perspectives of those who bully\, their victims\, and the trauma of the bystander. Woven through this film is the very personal\, first-hand account of a family’s tragic loss that inspired new legislation to turn the tide against this very real epidemic. \nCovid-19 has only acerbated this problem of cyber-abuse\, by providing a bully-ripe environment of isolation\, anxiety and increased time on screens. Most often driven by pain\, bullies are searching for that jolt of power when putting someone else down – and there is plenty of pain going around now. \nThe screening of the film will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Jason Fleming\, UCS’ Director of Children\, Youth and Family Services Division. “We are excited to continue this UCS Presents series with the community\,” said Fleming\, “It’s important for people to understand that their online actions affect real people.” \nThis screening is part of an initiative by Vermont Care Partners and additional screenings will be taking place across the state. This event is free; however\, registration is required. \nFor any questions\, please email dmalinowski@ucsvt.org. \nThis film is being sponsored by the Vermont Department of Mental Health under PIPBHC (CHILD) grant 5H79SM080234004 from SAMHSA.
