The Vermont Country Store Donates $1,500 to Bennington County Head Start to Help Brighten Holidays for Families in Need.

Bennington — For a number of families in the Bennington area, the holidays will be much brighter this year thanks to a $1,500 donation from The Vermont Country Store to Bennington County Head Start for the Adopt a Family Christmas Project. The donation was used to help provide low-income working parents, who were not eligible for other assistance, with gifts for their children.

The Vermont Country Store has been a long-time supporter of this project, either purchasing gifts directly or donating funds directly to United Counseling Service (UCS) for distribution to the Head Start program as they did this year. In turn, Head Start employees purchased gifts for local families in need.

“The unparalleled generosity of The Vermont Country Store is truly heartwarming during the holiday season and I want to thank them for their donation,” said Betsy Rathbun-Gunn, Director of Early Childhood Services at UCS. “The highest form of celebration during the holidays is helping those in need.”

“We are in the business of helping people relive fond memories by sharing products that connect them with wonderful times in their lives,” said Chris Vickers, The Vermont Country Store’s President and CEO. “Our gift to UCS helps ensure that everyone in our community has the chance to create warm holiday memories regardless of their personal circumstances.”

Head Start is for children between the ages of 3 and 5 with locations in Manchester, North Bennington, Pownal and Shaftsbury. The goal of Head Start is to provide children and their families with the building blocks necessary to succeed in learning, parenting, and life.
